When AmeriSource and Bergen Brunswig announced their merger in Spring 2001, employees from both companies began to focus on the changes that were occurring. As plans for the merger progressed, Linda Burkett, CIO of the merged company AmerisourceBergen, knew the key to a successful transition would be outstanding teamwork on the part of employees from both companies. Based on her previous success with BreakThroughs, Linda decided to engage the firm to support her efforts, expedite the necessary team-building, and ensure an effective merger of the two IT organizations. Two of BreakThroughs' key objectives were to unite the two distinct cultures and to establish increased cooperation among the newly merged team members. Working with Linda and her team, BreakThroughs developed a specific plan to ascertain that the new team would be fully integrated and operating at a high rate of efficiency within a period of 90-120 days. BreakThroughs quickly implemented a program that included an assessment of the strengths and differences the team members brought from each company. BreakThroughs' proven methodology of planning, gathering data, and analysis led to a targeted, successful program for Linda's merged team at AmerisourceBergen. Today, Linda has a unified team with cooperative relationships. The team has a singular culture, enabling them to accomplish more while continuing to operate effectively, and team members tackle new opportunities and issues with enthusiasm, respect, and accountability. Linda attributes BreakThroughs' work as a key ingredient to the success her new team is achieving: "The results BreakThroughs delivers are truly phenomenal! I am a firm believer in training our associates, but until you focus each team member on a common goal, you will not realize the results necessary for success. Attaining buy-in is what BreakThroughs does best their programs and processes are filled with tools and interventions that lead to accountability and mutual respect."
